Behind the Scenes – Nadia Batson
“All the answers are within, so trust yourself.” – Nadia Batson
Producing yet another cover for Fashion Focus magazine was indeed an honour. I count it a blessing to wear so many strong hats, Stylist, Creative Director and even Writer.
When putting my talents to use in this cover story I had to rely on all three simultaneously and trusting myself was a huge part of the process. In interviewing Nadia when she said these words it resonated with me because a lot of my biggest accomplishments have been due to me relying on God and trusting every ounce of talent and intuition he’s placed within me.
When the Editor-In-Chief invited me to not only be this Issue’s Fashion Editor, but also gave me the liberty and full creative freedom to produce a Cover Shoot of one of the Caribbean’s most loved female Soca Artist’s, I was so grateful. Nadia Batson, fondly known as ‘Nady’ by the Soca community and her fans has been a dominant force throughout the pandemic and a local philanthropist which is no surprise due to her compassionate nature. So, with this cover shoot I wanted to explore a side of her most had not seen before.
What I particularly loved about styling and directing this editorial was showing Nadia, a vivacious curvaceous woman in a glammed light. I wanted to show off her ‘modest’ sexy appeal too. Show off the Hollywood Star energy that she most graciously gives and allow you to see her inner regality on her exterior. Without a doubt Nadia is a gem and a Queen.
If you knew me , you’d know that I do nothing without intention. One of the things that is extremely important to me with my work is INCLUSION.
Which is why when it came to producing this cover editorial and story for Fashion Focus I tapped into designers not just from Trinidad & Tobago but the CARIBBEAN. I called one of St. Vincent and The Grenadines’ top local designers Lisa Cordice of Poshelle designs and commissioned a custom designed piece just for Nadia. To make a long story short I am always so grateful for the love and support of other Caribbean creatives. The team was a keen reflection of inclusivity which I was very proud of and I know Nadia is a strong advocate for herself. The teamwork was one of sheer perfection and the editorial most certainly reflected the spirit in which this editorial was done, Excellence. It took a talented village, one that I am so grateful for and proud of.
The Team.
